Leggings are amazing for many reasons, they are comfortable, easy to wear, versatile and often flattering. But they have caused an epidemic of camel toes. Women everywhere (including celebrities!) have been flashing their camel toes to the world. According to the Society for Aesthetic Surgery (ASAPS), the labiaplasty, a plastic surgery procedure meant to reduce the size of your labia, has increased by 44 percent alone in 2014. This increase has occurred right around the same time leggings started leaving the gym to enter everyday fashion.
This embarrassing fashion faux pas is often due to several things: the thickness of your leggings and their cut.
Leggings with extra thin fabric will tend to show every detail of your body, including camel toe, cellulite and any bump you may have. Additionally if they are poorly cut or tend to rise up on your hips they can accentuate your camel toe even more.
Avoiding this dreaded effect, without getting surgery, can be easy though:
- If you know you’re wearing cheaper, thin leggings layer a tunic or dress over them, the easiest way to avoid a camel toe is to hide it!
- Makes sure you chose the right size and fabric, performance fabrics can be amazing, but they can also be a bit too clingy and see-through, especially if worn in the wrong size.
- Try Svelte’s shapewear leggings. These are made out thick, high quality fabric (especially the ponte de roma ones) and their slimming waist panel will keep them firmly in place, not riding up your bum.
